Delivering comprehensive medical care or behavioral health services as a component of your practice for Transgender (TG) or Gender Diverse (GD) individuals may sometimes prove to be challenging. These challenges often arise from a historical lack of specialized medical or behavioral health training, particularly in the context of gender diverse healthcare, that prepares you for the unique needs of Transgender and Gender Diverse patients.
In the absence of specialized training, time is necessary to gain first-hand, real-world knowledge and experience regarding the diverse challenges and experiences these individuals face in their self-attributed Non-Conforming Gender roles.
The professionals I collaborate with strive to provide the best and most appropriate care for these patients. However, without acquired experience and knowledge or being a Transgender or Gender Diverse stakeholder, one might inadvertently impose their own preconceived or unconscious biases while delivering care.
As a Social-Psychology & Behavioral Analyst with doctoral degrees in Sociology and Psychology, I proudly identify as a Stakeholder in the LGBTQ+ community as a Trans-Woman. My life's evolution, which I refer to as my transition, took place in 1990, 35 years ago.
Since my Gender Affirmation, I have gained valuable insights and experiences that enable me to assist with client or patient interventions, ensuring the provision of appropriate, compassionate, and effective medical or behavioral healthcare. Additionally, I have been actively researching and studying the biological, hormonal, and physiological aspects of Gender Dysphoria, as well as the needs and history of Transgender and Gender Diverse individuals. For over 35 years, I have worked closely with the LGBTQ community and healthcare providers, and I also recommend various LGBTQ+ podcasts that discuss these topics.
